Mr. Irvin, MFT works as an integrative therapist whose therapeutic style and orientation is varied and versatile.  He believes in combining the knowledge and skills from a variety of transformative modalities.  Emphasizing their complimentary benefits, Todd has developed many specialties of therapeutic treatment: Psychodynamic, Family Systems, Somatic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused, Crisis Intervention, Mindfulness, Imago Couples Therapy, Attachment Theory, Dream Analysis, Jungian and Motivational Interviewing.  He also incorporates principles from eastern psychological systems of thought such as Buddhism and Taoism as well as mind-body techniques borrowed from the practice of sports, marital arts and ritual.

Most people seek out his professional services for either healing, change or growth, either in their individual lives and/or in their significant relationships.  He has a general adult practice with specialties in treating a host of issues such as, depression, bipolar, anxiety, panic attacks, low self esteem, grief, co-occurring addictive process, OCD, difficult transitions, traumatic experience, creative block, relationship counseling, communication skill training, anger management, acculturalization, coping with chronic illness and conflict resolution.

Todd has also had great success working with men in therapy.  Understanding how powerful sociobiological forces influence the masculine psyche has allowed him to adapt the therapeutic encounter to better serve male clients.  In addition, he has done group therapy with men referred through the Pump Station who are first time fathers and helps them embody the latest research on the importance of fathering on infant development.

Mr. Irvin has specialized training in treating the acute stress experienced by first responders attending to critical incidents, such as firemen and EMT.  He also specializes with multicultural issues that impact the delivery of therapy.

Todd believes that the therapeutic process should be a creative process that includes accessing knowledge from the somatic, affective and cognitive aspects of self.  Integrating these resources helps us find our authentic voice and vision.  By doing so we can raise our awareness to free ourselves from automatic reactions and patterns.  This empowers us with ability to have greater choice and make better decisions.  We move from being witnesses to the authors of our own lives.

The goal is to literally change neural activity and biochemistry through processing our experience in a new way.  Regaining a sense of vitality and agency is an essential outcome.

He considers himself as a collaborator with the client on this journey and recognizes that there are different stages of growth.  As an ally, Todd believes that knowledge is power and works as am "open source" therapist who practices a psycho-educational style.  He acknowledges the incredible importance of professional ethics and personal integrity required of the therapist.

Mr. Irvin believes in the power of self-regulation, self-healing and self-care through accessing the wisdom of the core self.  We all seek to be seen and heard, to "feel felt" and understood.  Todd believes that when this corrective emotional experience is created by a trusting and safe therapeutic relationship the unconscious naturally orients towards facilitating healing, expansion and integration.

Starting therapy is a hero's journey.  Surviving the confusion and chaos of fear and loss and emerging from troubled times with a deeper sense of self-acceptance and wisdom is the journey of the everyday hero.  Over millenniums humankind has evoked the importance of coming together in a sacred place to learn and transform.  The origins of the term "dojo" translates as a place of awakening and training.  In this spirit Todd offers his Therapy Dojo as a place to awaken to and train in new ways of being in the world.
